I'm going to be teaching a class. Beginning Life Drawing

For the last few months, I've been helping to create advertising for the Mexican American Cultural Center as well as participating in their open air art market, "Hecho a Mano". Well, I've decided to offer a class at the center and chose figure drawing. It's a subject that I love and I think it will be a good experience. One of the reasons I'm doing it is because I've been playing with the idea of being a teacher and going back to school for teacher certification. If this class does well, then I'll be heading back for school. There is a problem though; I've been looking around and no one seems to offer certification for art, unless you count the big universities that also make you take a lot of extra classes.

In regards to the class, it will be a short 8 week program covering basics such as gesture drawing, using line weights to render form and light source, shading to create volume, and a whole lot of direct study of models to create accurate, proportionate figures. I also want to touch on some technical subjects about paper selection, transferring and using light tables, and protecting drawings. Since it's such a short class, I don't know if there will be time to jump into making accurate portraits, we'll have to see how fast they learn.

What I'm needing most are MODELS. All sizes, sexes, and races. I think what I'll do is have 4 models and put them in a rotation. This way students can chart their progress by comparing their early work to the end of class.

CLASS BEGINS MARCH 5- APRIL 23, EVERY WEDNESDAY 6-8 PM.
